Flow Mechanisms and Lubrication Performance of Water-Lubricated Thrust Bearings with Herringbone Grooves

Due to their excellent stability and zero leakage capability, thrust bearings with herringbone spiral grooves are frequently used in transmission mechanisms. However, the lubrication mechanism of has not been clearly understood explained, preventing optimization bearing performance. Thus, this paper is devoted solving problem by building a three-dimensional finite element flow model. In model, change viscosity temperature considered using Roelands equation, turbulence cavitation taken into consideration. Using established influence parameters such as angle, groove width ratio, rotational speed on area analyzed. The pressure contour distribution obtained inside clearance, well volume fraction gas phase at end face. Finally, according analysis results, optimum structural parameter for structure proposed, which enables higher provides reference engineering practice.
